Chicago is a great city that has the sophistication of a big metropolitan city with a Midwestern friendliness all situated on gorgeous Lake Michigan. Chicago rally has the best of both worlds in so many apects as it blends the urban with the outdoors on the lakefront and the fast paced city with a laid back friendliness typical of the Midwest. Many big names today have Chicago homes and Chicago real estate, namely Oprah Winfrey and President Barack Obama. As with any area, Chicago is divided into many various neighborhoods and parts and this article will explore some of those Chicago neighborhoods and offer information about them.
Lincoln Park is just north of downtown and the more affluent area of the Lake Shore Drive and is the largest park in the city of Chicago. This park has 15 baseball fields and a golf course in addition to other sporting areas as well. In addition to the huge park it has boating facilities and public beaches making it quite appealing to young professionals as well as young families for all of the outdoor activities and the close proximity to downtown. It also has the nations oldest free zoo which a lot of residents walk through daily. North Pond is also situated in Lincoln Park as is the Lincoln Park conservatory and many outdoor concerts occur during the summer on a lakefront theatre as well.
Another neighborhood in Chicago is called Wrigleyville and is located around Wrigley field and along North Clark and West Addison streets. It was once thought to be a working class neighborhood and the Irish American roots are quite evident here still with many Irish pubs dotted in and around the ballpark. Many of the buildings near the baseball field actually have bleachers on the roofs that allows you to watch the Chicago Cubs play outside of the ballpark on what are called Wrigley Rooftops. Several businesses in nearby Lakeview East appeal to the gay and lesbian community and are blended with the sports centered one surrounding Wrigley stadium making it a diverse combination.
A lot of people have heard of the Magnificent Mile when the topic of Chicago arises. This area is the mile long stretch on Michigan Avenue downtown that goes from the Chicago River to Oak Street. It is the main thoroughfare of the business district of the Loop and the Gold Coast more north. It is the spot to head for shopping and dining and the perfect location as a visitor to stay in one of the many wonderful hotels. The magnificent Mile is thought to be the center of it all in Chicago and that is why it brings in so many travelers too.
The final area is the Gold Coast which is the wealthiest neighborhood in Chicago. It has high rise apartments on Lake Shore Drive in addition to stately gray stone buildings more inland. This neighborhood is also home to upscale boutiques and top designer stores to appeal to the affluent residents that reside there.
